Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is a specialized program designed to treat dizziness and balance disorders. A wide variety of vertigo and balance disorders such as BPPV, unilateral/bilateral vestibular loss, chronic dizziness and frequent falls can be treated using VRT. If you are experiencing problems, it is important that you first discuss your symptoms with a physician who can determine the specific cause, diagnosis and treatment of your condition.
The goals of VRT include:
- Decrease the frequency, duration and intensity of the vertigo
- Reduce fall risk
- Improve balance
- Increase safety
- Learn compensatory strategies
- Understand the diagnosis
If you think you may benefit from vestibular therapy, ask your physician to refer you to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation. A physical therapist who specializes in dizziness and balance will conduct an evaluation and treatment. Insurance payment varies, so check your individual policy for coverage.
