Cardiac Rehabilitation
The cardiac rehabilitation program at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center is designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals who have experienced a cardiac event. The skilled professionals on the team are specially trained to assist patients who are beginning the journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
We help rehabilitation patients regain their confidence while increasing overall well-being. Program participants are given resources to regain their ability to return to work and perform daily activities.
Who Can Benefit From Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Patients who have had:
- A heart attack
- Bypass surgery
- Angina
- A stent placement
- Angioplasty
- A heart transplant
- Heart valve repair or replacement
- Chronic congestive heart failure (CHF)
Goals
The primary goals are to:
- Provide therapeutic exercise to increase your strength and endurance
- Motivate and encourage you to maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle
Along with your physician, the team will closely monitor your progress while helping support and assist you in making healthy lifestyle changes.
What should you expect?
Patients in cardiac rehabilitation attend exercise classes 2-3 times a week for up to a total of 36 sessions. Each session lasts approximately one hour. Along with exercise, we discuss eating a heart-healthy diet, controlling high cholesterol, smoking cessation, regulating high blood pressure and stress management.
With a physician’s referral, we develop an exercise plan to meet your specific needs. We focus on increasing your strength and endurance through aerobic and resistance training. During exercise, the skilled team monitors your heart rhythm,
heart rate and blood pressure to provide a safe, effective workout.
One Team, One Goal: You
We strive to:
- Create a stress-free environment
- Promote positive thinking
- Enhance a speedy recovery
- Decrease fear and anxiety
According to the National Institutes of Health, evidence demonstrates that attendance in cardiac rehabilitation reduces the incidence of fatal cardiac events and reduces overall mortality.
Will my insurance cover this service?
Medicare and most insurance plans cover up to 36 sessions in this program. Participants are encouraged to contact providers as coverage varies from policy to policy. For those who do not have insurance coverage, an affordable self-pay option is available.
