Town Board Issues Multiple Myeloma Proclamation

Survivors and caregivers were on hand at the Monday night town board meeting for the official proclamation that March is Multiple Myeloma Action Month. The second most common blood cancer, there are approximately 230,000 affected worldwide by the disease according to the International Myeloma Foundation. Commissioner Bobby Compton (far left) presented the proclamation to Lou Mintzer, (second from left) who leads a Multiple Myeloma support group on the third Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, 171 Fairview Road. Along with Mintzer, on hand for the proclamation were (from left) Terry Scherman a 12-year survivor, Cathy Lynch and Martha West, who serve as caregivers for those affected with multiple myeloma.
