Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Nurses Recognized with DAISY Awards
1/29/2025
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Nurses at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center are recipients of the prestigious DAISY Foundation Award. Stacy McDonald, BSN, R.N., surgical services, and Yang Hancock, B.A., R.N., critical care unit, are the recipients of the DAISY Award for fourth quarter, 2024. The DAISY Foundation’s goal is recognition for the efforts of extraordinary nurses.
McDonald and Hancock were recognized and presented the DAISY Award by Tammy Moore, network chief nursing officer, along with members of their departments joined by additional hospital leadership. Moore also presented McDonald and Hancock with a certificate, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe, a gift bag, daisies, and treats for her team that included cinnamon rolls and a large cake to share.
An excerpt from the DAISY nomination for McDonald submitted by her supervisor, Sherry Jeffries, MSN, R.N., director of surgical services, reads: "Stacy is a true team player, steps into the charge role, when the charge is not available, and will pick up extra shifts after her 40 hours to help her team when needed. Stacy always puts the patient at the center of her care whether she is helping another co-worker or giving surgery instructions for surgical patients. She relieves the anxiety of her team and her patients most every day.”
An excerpt from the DAISY nomination for Hancock submitted by a patient, reads: "Yang was my nurse, and she went above and beyond from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. Yang made me feel completely safe and cared for. Her warmth, professionalism, and kindness turned a stressful situation into one where I felt supported every step of the way. As someone experiencing hospitalization for the first time, I couldn’t have asked for better care. Yang’s exceptional work is a testament to her dedication as a nurse.”
The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
This is one initiative of The DAISY Foundation whose overall goal is to help fight diseases of the immune system. Additionally, DAISY offers J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects and provides assistance to ITP support groups. More information is available on their website www.DAISYfoundation.org.
